Inspiration, Oprah and Me

All of a sudden I've decided to write a new blog about the everyday occurances in life. The thing I love about life is that just when you think you knew everything and there isn't possibly anything new that anybody can teach you - something comes and hits you in the face like a frying pan.

Recently I've been watching Oprah's reality show about behind the scenes of her last series of her successful chat show. To have such an up close and personal look at someone who has achieved so much in her life and rose to the top given that she struggled through a life of adversity is inspirational and astounding.
The idea that one person can have such an impact on society and culture due to there outlook and morales on life is extremly profund. If she expressed her support for a book it went in the best sellers list, if she liked a sandwich then that would sell out. Organised madness but I can't help but feel attracted to the hysteria around this woman. I mean she even helped get President Obama get elected.

I love the fact that Oprah even talks about spirituality on television. Wouldn't it be great if in the UK we were able to discuss things like this in such a forum. Instead any mention of things we can't explain on a physical or scientific level is met with groans of "You don't believe in that mumbo jumbo bollocks do ya?!?!".
I love the idea of someone who has everything in the world that money can buy and still looks for a deeper truth outside of herself and material possessions. Someone who talks about there emotions and feeling with the public.

All you have to do go on the London Underground Tube to see everyone looking miserable, unfriendly and pissed off with life in general. Society needs more people like Oprah Winfrey to try and bring people together and talk about whats really going on in the world. I don't just mean on a political level.
How you perceive the world and the people in it has a massive effect on what you get back in life. We all know the types of negative people that see life as "The glass is half empty". These people drain you of energy and are always quick to judge. When the geezer who invented the light bulb told his mates about his idea, I can imagine him and his muckers were all sitting round a poxy candle and they told him he was a plonker.
As a society we need to start championing the idea that anything is possible and attainable and encourage folk that there is more to life beyond our own ego's, status and reputation.

I mean I don't wanna contradict myself here - I like being cakeo bakeo more then anyone else on a night out. But I like the fact I can get on with a night of cider and also enjoy a bottle of champers too.
I hope even though Oprah's Tv show is ending in the states, her legacy lives on. I hope that the caring and sincere relationship she had with her viewers can be mirror'd in Britain. We need to be discussing such books as "The Secret" and the idea of "Law Of Attraction" on a mass scale in the UK. For starters its obvious to everyone that when the weather is good, the morale of the whole country lifts. Why can't we speak and discuss a positive mental attitude on a daily basis rather then watch some of the slit your own wrists drama's that they seem to be constantly pumping us.

I'm not saying we can change the world here, I'm not trying to be Bono. But I know that at times when I've been down in my life, a change of perspective had helped me out of the blues by focusing on joy and happiness within my own thoughts. Remember imagination is the preview of life's coming attractions.

This Is Essex

If you have just watched the Totally Essex Teaser I've uploaded on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USX6tKZxK_o, then your properly thinking to yourself - why the hell have you waited this long to announce this information?!? Everyone thought it would be better off if I kept it a secret but in all honesty, this is one secret that has got to big for even myself to keep quiet.

Basically I worked on the idea of an Essex version of The Hills for 2 years. I wrote the treatment, I got the cast together and got a teaser trailer made. I pitched it to various differentr production companies; to cut a long story short - the show got made without my finishing touches.

I'm very proud of the success of the show and it's stars. I haven't uploaded the trailer to youtube to cause any drama, I literally just wanted people to know where the original idea and concept of The Only Way Is Essex came from.

Essex: The Next Generation

It's October - people go to work and come home in the dark, we no longer have a use for sunglasses or shorts/skirts. Basically the whole country turns into a bad episode of "One Foot in The Grave". Then one ray of light comes into the living rooms of every TV addict - "The Only Way Is Essex".

Yes, it's obviously partly scripted and certain bits of it are manipulated - but if the nation are going to swallow Wagner and Diva Fever making it to the live shows on X-Factor then they defintly should stomach my fellow Essex folks. The main problem most viewers' of the show are having is being able to tell if the cast are actors or not. The people in it are certainly real, I can vouch for that myself as I personally have had encounters with half of them within my 23 years of life living in Essex.

Me and Amy when she was blonde
At the moment, Essex is not responding very well to this new program; claiming that it sets our county back 20 years. Most critics' saying it makes us look stupid, shallow and self obsessed - what's wrong with being any of them things might I add?!?! I understand there statements if they want our county to be taken seriously by the rest of the nation however I fear they are missing the joke. The cast of The Only Way Is Essex are not trying to be bimbo's/ego-maniac's - there purely poking fun at the old age joke of the town that they live in, all while having a bit of fun and enjoying the buzz that comes with a brand new smash hit ITV2 show.

The show even made it's way onto the 10 o'clock news last night because it was infuriating Essex. Fair enough it's not making us look like brain surgeons but in all honesty I think people need to gain a sense of humour and understand that the show is about fun and is partly poking fun at itself. While EastEnders is consistantly giving us death after death (R.I.P Billie - Shout out to Devon Anderson here - big fan of this man's work!!!!) and X-Factor is no longer a harmless talent contest; albeit all the Gamu-gate drama. The Only Way is Essex has given Britain something to smile about in October. I find it hilarious when I hear the national outcry as to why the whole cast is orange. I live round here it's perfectly normal to me - plus it seems to boost people's morale after a spray tan - I've considered a 'bed sometimes myself when I'm a bit down - smirk.

Me and Kirk - November 2007
The reason why these people were chosen for the show over the Essex museum workers and book worm residents was because they are interesting, slightly shocking and mesmerising characters as I know from first hand. I find it hilarious and most ironic that only a month ago I laughed when out with Amy she shortend "jealous" to "jel" and it now features in this weeks Heat magazine about one of the best things about the show. Watching Kirk on the show is the most weird, cos' we used to knock around with each other quite abit a few years ago - I now know what it must of been like for my family and friends to of watched me on BB for the first time all those years ago. Mark Wright seems to of gone down well with female viewers as his face features as a sub story on the front of Heat Magazine. Sam Fairers is already a top glamour model but with the show behind her aswell - it looks like her face will be pushed further into the limelight. After only two weeks on air, its already a popular culture phenomenom and I for one am very proud. My beloved Big Brother is now dead and the masses needed a drama based reality show about people and life in general. This show delivers us this and so much more. The statement "Do you want a Vajazzle" will now go down in the history books alongside "I like blinkin' I do" and "Who is She...Where did you find her" and of course my very own favourite - "Yogurt Top".

As a Tv addict and reality TV junkie, I have to admit - it was about time Britain got it's own The Hills/Laguna Beach/The City flavoured televisual treat. It's become water cooler TV, whether you like it or not people are talking about it - good and bad. You can't move without seeing a cast members face on some sort of publication. Who ever came up with the idea or the cast must be some sort of genius....

To Be Continued.....Shut Urp!
